Video Rental Basics

Videos can be had in their original language even at normal chain video stores, but there are several independent video rental places to check out for more extensive selections:

  • Filmgalerie 451 on Linienstrasse in Mitte (U6 Oranienburger Tor)

  • Videodrom on Fürbringer Strasse/ Mittenwalderstrasse in Kreuzberg (U7 Gneisenaustrasse)

  • Negativland on Helmholtzplatz in Prenzlauer Berg (U2 Eberswalderstrasse)

You can also rent a surprising selection of videos of all types from the city libraries—free once you’ve paid the membership fee of €5,- for students. The public library in Mitte (U8 Rosenthaler Platz) and the Amerika Gedenkbibliothek (U1/U6 Hallesches Tor) also have lots of DVDs—it’s just a matter of getting ahold of them. Ordering a video will cost you €1,- but might be worth it.
