Mobile IA
peterme's got some neat ideas about the "augmentation of space", so to speak, that might appear as mobile devices get smarter about us (their users) and the contexts they're used in. This was one of the threads of the last Doors of Perception conferences, and this idea of context-sensitive design (or simply "context design") is the main theme of this year's Doors (in less than two weeks! Can't wait!)
"Tagging" places with your mobile device as you move around (Note to other diners at a restaurant: "try the Tom Yum Gai here, but go next door to Amy's Ice Cream for dessert") is sort of appealing, but it would be impossible to avoid the clouds of virtual graffiti that would accrete around a place. Remember the ThirdVoice mess of a few years ago? That was a browser plugin that let you annotate any web site with comments. Other users with the ThirdVoice plugin could see the comments others left. ThirdVoice got in trouble for allowing people to essentially "deface" other peoples' sites.
