"New Paradigm of Tools and User Experiences"

Marc Canter, the designer of design software like Director, wrote an excellent short whitepaper called "The New Paradigm of Tools and User Experience, that is a nice read in the context of Adaptive Design (or modular design).

He identifies some characteristics of new design tools that I don't think anyone else has pointed out, one of which is that good ones "Generate Scalable Content." In particular, he points out that tools that do this can enable "the amortization of investment in interactive content - and enables content developers to actually reap profits, rewards, and ROI on their investment." Other characteristics fit with what others have already pointed out about Adaptive tools: integration, aggregation, and layers of customization. I also like Marc's term "luggable."

It does load. It's a pdf file, so give it a minute.

If you find a broken link on my site, why not just email me? An anonymous comment doesn't really help...
