Eavesdropping
I'm sitting here in Little City coffee shop, using their fast net connection for the price of a cuppa coffee, and I'm listening to the conversation behind me among three UT people. They're talking about ideas for setting up a "Digital Arts Program" at UT. Now, I know that there have been at least two or three such efforts on that campus to do just that, from two or three wildly divergent perspectives (Comp Sci vs. Visual Design vs. Radio/Television/Film for instance). They also seem ignorant of Austin's own Museum of Digital Art, which has probably grappled with some of the concerns they have.
I'm also overhearing them wade deeply into discussions about how sound is produced in video games, how animation works, and all kinds of other things. One of them says, great, you've done sound for games then? "No, but I've watched my son play video games a lot, and I've got it figured out. You know, Mario and all that." Good, got it. Ready to teach.
