Chris Ware Book

I just got Chris Ware's most recent (May) book: "Quimby the Mouse". It's not as stupendous as "Jimmy Corrigan", it's still an amazing thing, especially considering much of it was done when Ware was in college (right here in Austin!).

IAs used to like to point to Scott McCloud's work as an example of visual narratives, but I think Ware's work is usually more directly relevant. Ware's a master of complex structured diagrams (like the hustory of humanity done for Dave Eggers' SF writing center--also reproduced in the Quimby book). The best of his diagrammatic drawings will narrate a scene from several points of view at once, sometimes even from the point of view of an inanimate object. I didn't look at every print available here, but I'm sure there's some good examples.

Andrew Otwell writes about one of Chris Ware's new collections, Quimby the Mouse, and has some wise words on the genius of Ware. Like Andy, I'm a huge fan of Ware, not least due to his near-perfect examples of visual [Read More]

In looking at that Yahoo page of prints, it seems like the guy's selling photos of the real prints he owns?

The guy's not selling prints, Yahoo is. Every Yahoo photo album has the option to order prints. I don't think you can turn it off.

I'm glad to hear that the 826 Valencia mural has found its way into print -- Valencia's a busy street, and hard to stay in the middle of for very long.

That mural is excellent, I've been past 826 Valencia many times and never noticed it, possibly because the top and bottom of the building are two different colors. I went by yesterday and took a higher resolution picture (http://itchyrobot.com/photos/826ValenciaWareMural.JPG ), although still a bit too low-res to be completely readable.

The 826 Valencia website has a little more info about the mural (http://www.826valencia.org/about/facade/ ) and the store also sells small prints of the mural, actually they are sold as two large connected postcards (http://www.826valencia.org/store/shop_ware_postcard.html ).
