New job

I've just started my second week at a new job, as UI Designer for Surgient. I'm pretty excited about this, and it wasn't a hard decision to take the job. Interesting technology, nice people, and a growing company with great customers. (Plus they got me a totally rad laptop.)

One of the best parts--aside from focusing on UI design full-time as opposed to only as needed at my last job--is that I'll be working with a really excellent senior designer who has lots of UI experience. It's really important to me to be in an environment where I'm working with people who know more about design than I do, and this is really only maybe the second or third time I've worked closely with someone with years of UI experience.

Surgient's actually in its second incarnation now as a software company. It's one of the few survivors of the crash that is still felt very strongly in Austin. (You can read an article from today's Austin American Statesman about the company's history. )

congratulations, andy. I, myself, am looking for a similar company that doesn't seem to think that UI-design and usability are superfluous spending. Let me know if any other positions open up.
