La Cimbali M21 Junior DT

At the risk of my employer seeming like a frivolous dot-com, I wanted to mention the incredible new espresso machine we have at work, the Cimbali M21 Junior DT.

The Cimbali is an amazing piece of equipment, embodying Gelernter's definition of elegance ("a happy marriage of simplicity and power") perfectly. There's no fooling around with little plastic cups or flimsy carafes. Those curved steel side walls are solid, not doubled-over pressed sheets. Even incidental parts like the rubber mat on top for storing cups is of a durable, industrial material. Pushing buttons or turning knobs results in immediate, powerful results. Most things you can do with the Cimbali can scald you or worse, which somehow seems like a good quality. It makes very fine espresso drinks.
