Ok, two days of SXSW so far. High points, bad Mexican food with Molly and Adam, plus their sig others (sorry Ninfa's was so awful, folks). Also hanging out with with Scott for a bunch of panels and hearing second-hand stories of 2advanced's $4000 bar tabs.

Virginia Postrel's talk was better than I expected (though she had a wantonly ugly Powerpoint presentation, perhaps ironically ugly?) The political stuff (MoveOn, Trippi) has been the best so far. I've been really dissapointed in most of the rest of the panels I've seen. Here's a little tip to potential panelists: write something down you plan to say beforehand, you know, like have a point to make. Moderators, try to moderate, which means make sure to encourage everyone to speak, and try to draw threads together from everyone's comments. Don't multitask when you're onstage, listen, and use the time you're not speaking to think about what others are saying.

The Emergent Democracy panel today was just painful to sit through as the panelists tried to speak and play along with the IRC channel projected on the room's screen. The panelists didn't really listen to what each other was saying, so interesting people like Joi Ito and Adina Levin just kinda talked about some stuff when their turns came.

Tomorrow's CSS stuff should be fun, and I'm looking forward to hearing Veen speak for the first time.
