Hidden games in 80's music

Wonnerful essay on Sinclair video games hidden in 80's audio recordings. The games are appalling, but a lot more fun than more recent equivalents (via heather).

Dan Hill wrote about the same era of games and computers a while back: "...the seemingly unlimited potential of those early machines, akin to crystal radio-like boxes, loading programs off cassette tapes into 2kb of RAM. Remember this feeling?"

Luckily, you can play a few of these games as Java applets that run Sinclair emulations. Given how fragile digital data is, I wonder if encouraging future software emulation is a part of anyone's strategies for preserving it?
