Comment Parthenogenesis?

Is there a good name for the runaway, misguided, Google-driven commenting that happens on blog posts like this one at Kryogenix or to a lesser extent to this one at Cityofsound? The world-class alltime king champion example is this one at Overhaulin, which Haughey mentioned once.

I love what happened/what’s happening to that post over at mine! I’ve just let it run and run (though I had a pull a couple of abusive comments one time. Gamers. Sheesh.) I’m not sure if it’s ‘just’ Google pointing at it or whether there are some fan sites or something … but I love the collaborative problem solving going on there. I could’ve posted the whole track list to those albums/faux radio stations by now, but I’d rather they helped each other out.

I also love the modern twist on the ol’ ‘going into a record shop and humming a few bars’ technique of tune identification! … “(Bass Drum) ooh, ooh, ooh (Drum) ooh, ooh, ooh (Drum) ooh, ooh, ooh (Drum) In the night….”

The emergent comment conversations are fascinating to me. The discussions seem to morph very quickly, but small fervent communities ignite in these comment areas around misunderstandings or purely random comments. Google seems to keep track of the conversation, much like the sites and phone answering machines of the 90s we the starting point to find the private rave scene. Google just says, there is an emergent comment rave going on at some URL. It really does remind me of the very early rave scene on how these things just take off.
