'The Office', US-style
So the first episode of “The Office” as interpreted by NBC wasn’t too bad. Not a lot of really hilarious moments, although I’ll admit I just couldn’t shake the odd feeling of watching familiar characters speak and act almost exactly like the British originals. Some of the US-ification is a little off: the Gareth character (renamed “Dwight”) is a “volunteer sheriff’s deputy on weekends.” Hmm, can you do that? I’ve never heard of it. Steve Carrell is a very funny guy (his “I pooped a hammer” outtake from “Anchorman” was to me the only funny line of the whole awful movie).
Anyway, even as a 12-inch dance remix of a better show, ‘The Office’ wasn’t at all bad, certainly not what all the early reviews of it.`
